In an email to a Japanese Teacher of English (JTE) I wrote: Thanks for taking the time again. I understood everything you said, and it is clear you are incapable of helping me. However, if there is no disciplinary action, there is no discouraging their bad behaviour. What recourse is there in such cases at I****? There is a teacher at my base school who, once he starts yelling at a student, will continue to do so for at least an hour, for example.
The student who told me to “fuck off” and gave me the finger wasn’t joking. He was angry. He knew it was a bad thing.

Student’s Self-portrait
I want to survive my last classes there on Tuesday. I am not desirous of preparing a new worksheet about slang for students already happy with what I’ve been copying from a book. Having never created a worksheet on slang, it’ll take time: finding words and organising the worksheet into a crossword, word search etc. that they’d be interested in. Additionally, I’m currently busy correcting exam papers.
Please create a worksheet if you like and I’ll assist you in class with it, since my job title is ASSISTANT Language Teacher. It is a good idea and something I could do, but not for Tuesday. For next term.
My suggestion again: we continue using our current worksheets. The students like them.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused, but I**** B*****’s classroom environment has been increasingly stressful, especially since there is no way of disciplining students who misbehave or disrespect the teacher’s authority. It’s incomprehensible that no disciplinary action is taken when students behave like this one did.
See you Tuesday!
